Cousino-Macul Antiguas Reservas 2008, £8.59, D. Byrne, Clitheroe

A visit to this multi-award winning wine retailer's Clitheroe shop isn't just a shopping trip, writes Nick Nunn.

Going through the cavernous cellars is a tourist treat in its own right. There are hundreds of bottles you just won't find in supermarkets.

Here are two goodies from the under £10 range starting with this Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon which has blackcurrant, cherries and some oak and is well worth a try.

Santa Celina Pinot Gris 2010, £6.99, D. Byrne, Clitheroe

In the past year sales we've seen a lot of extremely well-priced wine from Argentina come into this country and not just the country's signature red Malbecs.

Here is a lovely lemon and grapefruit Pinot Gris – most commonly seen in the Alsace region but clearly thriving too in the foothills of the Andes.

The alcohol level is a sensible 12.5% and it's a very pleasant change from endless Sauvignon Blancs and Chardonnays.
