ACCLAIMED theatre and TV actress Maxine Peake takes the title role in David Eldridge’s new version of August Strindberg’s Miss Julie at the Manchester Royal Exchange Theatre.
Her TV credits include Veronica in Shameless, Myra Hindley in See No Evil and is about to hit the screens again as barrister Martha Costello in a the second series of BBC1 legal drama Silk.
She plays the beautiful and imperious Miss Julie, despondent after breaking off her engagement and left alone in her father’s mansion on a Swedish country estate on a hot evening.
The drama centres on her relationship with footman Jean – handsome, anarchic, resentful of the class system but greedy to rise to the top.
The production runs from April 11 to May 12.
