MEIGHAN Youth Theatre are to present their first Christmas Show.

It’s that old favourite The Wizard of Oz and the 29-strong cast of 13-21-year-olds are giving their all at rehearsals.

Even so, they’re bound to be overshadowed by Angus, the cute Poochon who is playing Toto, the dog. He belongs to Jackson Hayes, who plays the scarecrow; Producer and Director Joe Meighan, from Urmston, said: “Everyone loves Angus.

“We also have some ten-year-old actors appearing as the Lollipop Guild and Lullaby League.

“The oldest performer is 21-Year-old David Beeby who wlll be the Wizard.

The lead role of Dorothy goes to Tara Kitson, aged 17.

“She is sweet and kind-hearted as Dorothy and she sings beautifully,” said Joe.

The Wicked Witch of the West and the Good Witch of the North will be played respectively by Lara Hancox, 17, and Sara Nelson, 20.

“Both are powerful and strong. They play their parts well,” said Joe.

“As Director, I have enjoyed paying homage to the 1939 film whilst also putting my own stamp on the production.

“ We have a few exciting moments which will appeal to all ages.

“We wanted to go big – and they don’t come much bigger than the Wizard of Oz!”
