GRAINNE Wiggan is a GP by day but, at night, she is a school teacher in Sale Nomads’ production of The History Boys.

Grainne believes that Alan Bennett’s writing is exceptional and that this play is a masterpiece.

“It contains humour, sadness and all human emotions. People will love it."

She enjoys playing the only woman, Mrs Lintott.

Grainne, said: “My character is a goody really but doesn’t show her emotions. She’s a strong woman who says what she thinks.

“Mrs Lintott enjoys working with men and feels that women have had a rough time. She has learnt to fight her corner.”

In Grainne’s opinion, the only lady teacher cannot see why the boys at the suburban grammar school featured. need to go to Oxford or Cambridge.

“The head, played by Arthur Hulse, does it because he wants to look good in front of the parents and governors. She can’t understand this although she cares for the boys and wants to do the best for them.

“She knows about the sexual leanings of school master, Hector, played by Joe Cramsie, but doesn’t realise until later that he has groped his pupils.

“She is shocked and thinks he is a fool.”

Grainne enjoys working with the seven 16-18 year-old boys from Sale Grammar School just as much as Mrs Lintott does.

“Their drama teacher recommended them and they are doing well,” she said.
