PAUL Kerryson, the former artistic director of Curve, Leicester who, last year received an MBE for services to theatre, is to direct the forthcoming musical at Altrincham Garrick playhouse, Sweeney Todd Based on a book by Hugh Wheeler with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Sweeney Todd: A Musical Thriller, is one of the darkest musicals ever written.
It’s about a Victorian barber who returns to London after 15 years in exile to avenge the corrupt judge who ruined his life.
Subsequently he takes his revenge on the human race, murdering the customers of his barber’s shop while his business associate, Mrs Lovett, turns the bodies into meat pies and sells them to the unsuspecting public.
