You might have thought that Kim Kardashian was the queen of Instagram, but that title in fact belongs to Selena Gomez, as has been proven by the social platform’s reveal of their biggest moments of 2016.

The singer was head and shoulders above everyone else. Not only has Selena bagged the most-liked post of the year – the one below, which was closing in on 6 million likes at the start of December – but she also grabbed second, third, fourth and fifth place.

In fact, she took eight of the top 10 spots, with the other two going to Cristiano Ronaldo, both of his entries (sixth and ninth respectively) coming in the wake of Portugal’s Euro 2016 win.

Gomez is also the most-followed account on the app, with 103 million followers, putting her ahead of Taylor Swift who has 93.9 million and Ariana Grande on 90.2 million.

Beyonce, three of the Kardashian-Jenner clan (Kim, Kylie and Kendall), Cristiano Ronaldo, Dwayne Johnson and Nicki Minaj complete the top 10.

Elsewhere, the Facebook-owned site revealed that the most Instagrammed day of the year was Halloween, followed by the anniversary of 9/11 and the final of Euro 2016 in Paris.

In the UK, David Beckham remains the most followed Instagram account, and he also scored one of the most liked posts of the year when he marked his 17th wedding anniversary.

Since launching in 2010, Instagram has grown to more than 500 million monthly active users, and was bought by Facebook in 2012 for a billion dollars.
