Sarah Jessica Parker was initially reluctant to sign up to Sex And The City, because she didn’t want to commit herself to a series, actor Seth Rudetsky has revealed.

The TV series, created by Darren Star and based on Candace Bushnell’s book, turned SJP and her co-stars – Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis – into household names around the world, with its six-series run from 1998 to 2004.

Seth – who starred with the actress and her husband, Matthew Broderick, in a play at Provincetown’s Town Hall – wrote in his Playbill column: “She was reluctant to do the pilot because she didn’t really want to do a series. However, she loved the script so she filmed it and then forgot about it.

“Months later she found out the show was picked up and she completely wanted to get out of it. I mean, completely.”

Seth said Sarah Jessica even tried to bargain her way out of the contract and get out of playing columnist Carrie Bradshaw.

He continued: “She really didn’t want to be tied down to one job because she loved going from gig to gig and being, what she called, a ‘journeyman’. She tried various ways to get out of it including telling HBO that she would film three projects for free if they’d release her from her contract!

“Basically, they convinced her to honour her deal, and she now has no regrets.”

Sex And The City spawned two big-screen spin-offs, as well as a prequel TV series, and Seth hinted the cast may be reunited once again.

“She loved played Carrie Bradshaw and she told us that there may be a project coming up involving all the ladies!” he teased.

Kristin has revealed she would be up for reprising her role as Charlotte York-Goldenblatt, saying: “I do not know what’s happening. If it does happen, of course I’d be in it! We’d all be in it.”

But Kim, who portrayed Samantha Jones, expressed her doubts over a third adventure, saying in November 2014: “I take these rumours as terrific compliments but I don’t believe they are more than wishful thinking.”
