EastEnders is set to be rocked by what show bosses are saying is “an EastEnders villain like no other”.

The show’s executive producer, Dominic Treadwell-Collins, has hinted at what may unfold, and one of the big narratives set to rock Albert Square is the return of Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth).

Speaking about Kathy’s third husband Gavin Sullivan (played by Paul Nicholas), Dominic said: “If everything works out, and I hope it will, Gavin is going to be an EastEnders villain like no other.

“He’s going to be modern, complex, and have a little foot in the past and a foot in the present.”

So far no return date has been given for Kathy, but she is expected to make an appearance late in the summer.

Dominic also alluded to the Lucy Beale storyline, which exploded in February this year when her killer was revealed.

A staggering 11 million people tuned in to the episode to find out whodunnit and in the end, it was revealed that her younger brother, Bobby, was the killer.

“We rested the story for a little bit and let everyone breathe,” Dominic explained, “But that kicks off massively over the summer with a big arrest that will take us through into September…and a few old faces will turn up as well.”

Unlike previous years when the show has “closed” for the summer, this year filming will carry on with the aim of building up to “a very explosive September”.
