Simon Cowell plans to shake-up The X Factor by putting three men on the judging panel this year and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini as the only woman, according to reports.

The Sun said that the usual set-up of two men and two women was being overhauled.

According to the newspaper, Cheryl will be joined by Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw and Simon, meaning that there is one more “big-name male” to find for the ITV role.

A source was quoted as saying: “Simon has thrown the rule book out of the window this year.

“Ever since the panel moved from three to four judges there have been two men and two women, but it looks like that is going to change.”

The show famously sparked spats between some of its female judges, such as Sharon Osbourne and Dannii Minogue and Kelly Rowland and Tulisa.
