ROADWORKS on the A556 at Lostock will be suspended from today, Tuesday, until Monday, January 10.

Cheshire West and Chester Council's scheme has been taking place between Birches Lane and the Lostock Triangle gyratory to rebuild the road, carry out kerbing works, renew gully gratings, carry out road lighting maintenance and renew traffic signs and road markings.

Two waterproofing systems on two major bridges are also part of the project.

On December 21 roadworks on the Manchester-bound road will be complete, the contra-flow system will be removed and all traffic lanes and side roads will be reopened.

The contractor will return on January 10 for five weeks to carry out similar operations on the Chester-bound road section of road.

“This scheme was due to finish before Christmas however the exceptional freezing weather means that the work will be completed in February weather-permitting” said Clr Lynn Riley, CWAC's community and environment executive member.

“As we are all aware this scheme is very important and we apologise for the delay which was weather-related.”
