THE updated ix35 is one of the fastest selling models for Hyundai.

Hardly surprising, as this five-door SUV is cheaper and better equipped than many of its rivals. It’s also easy on the eye and a great drive to boot. Which goes someway to explain why Hyundai is the first Korean car manufacturer to get into the top 10 bestselling manufacturers in the UK.

With new styling, an updated chassis for better handling, the ix35 also has plenty of storage and a comfortable, high-up seating position giving you a commanding view of the road.

It retains its former three engine option line-up of 1.6 GDI direct injection petrol and 1.7 and 2.0-litre turbodiesels along with five trim choices – the entry-level S, mid-range SE and SE Nav and two range-topping trims Premium and Premium Panorama.

New standard features across the range include LED Daytime running lights and LED positioning lights, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and Trailer Stability Assist. Inside are upgraded audio and navigation system units.

The range begins with the S 1.6-litre GDi 2WD manual, which comprises of 16-inch alloy wheels, USB and AUX connections, air conditioning, glove compartment with cooler to keep drinks nice and cold, Trip Computer, Hillstart Assist Control and Downhill Brake Control.

Move up to SE and you’ll get Bluetooth connectivity with voice recognition, cruise control, heated seats and rear parking sensors.

For an extra £1,000 you can choose SE Nav, which comes with Satellite Navigation with TMC, rearview parking camera (a godsend) upgraded seven-speaker sound system and ‘sharkfin’ antenna.

The new Premium and Premium Panorama trims benefit from 18-inch alloys and Bi-Xenon headlights with self-levelling system. Keyless entry, leather seats and privacy glass round-up the interior features. Premium Panorama gets an electric tilt and slide panoramic sunroof.

It has the highest Euro NCAP rating, so is one of the safest in its class, with safety features including ABS, EBD, ESP, lots of airbags and Isofix anchoring points. Getting kids in and out of child seats was a breeze and there was plenty of room in the boot too. (Not for the children I might add, although it’s tempting sometimes).

The new ix35 is backed by the brand’s five-year Triple Care assurance package, which includes five years unlimited mileage warranty, free roadside assistance and annual vehicle health checks.
