PERFORMING in Warrington on a Tuesday night has become something of a regular thing for Adam Hills.

Because the presenter of the Last Leg has been making a regular pilgrimage up north to train with the Warrington Wolves Physical Disability rugby league team.

This Tuesday he was headlining a comedy night at The Parr Hall, Howl with Laughter, to raise money to fund the team’s trip to Australia in August when the Wolves will take on Adam’s beloved South Sydney Rabbitohs.

And as he joked at the start of his set which closed the fundraiser, he could probably have paid the £50,000 they are trying to raise with the money he has given to Virgin over the past few months travelling between Euston and Warrington.

The show was a celebration of the team but also the chance to enjoy seven comics.

Expertly hosted by Mick Ferry, it featured John Bishop, who seemed confused to be in the Cultural Quarter and said the queues of fans waiting to get in resembled more of a ‘Greggs sale’.

Justin Moorhouse brought the house down with his ode to bringing up teenage children and his admiration for a return to the Cold War 80s and nod to Donald Trump giving hope to hopeless middle aged men everywhere.

Rachel Fairburn, originally from Manchester, got an extra cheer for wearing a Wire shirt and delivered a polished set which ridiculed people with ‘relax’ and ‘sleep’ signs in their homes. And those who buy pictures for the walls from B&M of places they will never visit, New York, Chicago and ... Nottingham.

Stockport comic George Lewis was the surprise hit with the rap he wrote as a 12-year-old.

But this was Hills’ night, which started with one of his teammates almost hitting him with their prosthetic leg in an unusual heckle.

Kudos too to the woman who paid more than £200 for a signed Wolves ball.
