ORGANISERS of this year’s Lymm Historic Transport Day will be hoping for blue skies.

But whatever the weather above there will be plenty of lightning on the main event field on Sunday, June 24.

Moviegoers will be in for a treat with the appearance not just of Lightning McQueen from the Cars Movies but also ECTO-1 of Ghostbusters fame, along with giant inflatable Mr Stay Puft, and the return of the Batmobile.

To complete the movie line-up and to coincide with the release of the new Jurassic Park movie, the Park’s 4X4 tour bus will be there along with a young T-Rex who will be roaming the field from time to time.

Lymm’s other lightning attraction will be in the form of an original cockpit of a Lightning jet.

Alan Williams, organiser, said: “Nothing quite compares with the thrill of sitting in the pilot’s seat of this iconic aircraft.

“And if you like to see your aircraft all in one piece then don’t miss the return visit of the Spitfire of the Battle of Britain Memorial flight which will be making three passes over the main event field ( weather permitting) on the day.

“It provided a literally show-stopping moment last year and will look even better coming out of a clear blue sky.”

The event has gone from strength to strength since the first Transport Day in 2013.

Part of the 10-day long Lymm Festival, the whole day , run entirely by a volunteer team led by Alan Williams, now attracts around 8,000 visitors to the village but there is plenty of room for everyone.

A fleet of vintage buses ferry visitors from the nearby park and rides while this year, for the first time, Network Warrington is bringing its own vintage double-decker into service to bring passengers from the bus station.

The event has also attracted two main sponsors this year: MKM Building Supplies and Central Self Drive whose sponsorship is also marking a celebration of 50 years in business in Warrington.

Alan added; “One of the most popular features of the event is the way it stretches right across the village from the May Queen field, with its classic cars , world food court and marketplace, live music, steam railway and stunt bike entertainment, to the village centre itself.

“The Bridgewater Canal is always a popular spot but on Transport Day weekend it comes alive with dozens of historic working boats and the chance to step aboard and maybe take a trip. There’s even a horse harnessing demonstration of a working canal horse.

“It’s impossible to miss the sight, sounds and smells of the traction engines area too, next to the canal while just next door the village’s new Heritage Centre will be showing an exhibition celebrating Lymm’s connection with both the Bridgewater and Manchester Ship Canals.

“There are more indoor treats in store too.. Northern Brickworks are planning some surprises at their Lego exhibition while the Manchester Aviation Art Society will be giving a painting demonstration and producing a painting on the day depicting operations at Burtonwood on the 70th anniversary of the start of the Berlin blockade and the famous airlift that followed.

“With Warrington Model Railway Club completing the line-up with several fabulous layouts it promises to be a full day from the drive-in parade at 10.30am to the historic sail past at 4.30pm.

Transport Day is part of Lymm Festival which runs from June 21 to July 1.
