Having had the Sunday carvery at the Wharton Park, Winsford, recommended, what better a time for the family to go out than on Fathers Day.

I called them the day before to book a table but was told that they do not take bookings.

This concerned me, as I didn't want to be left waiting for an hour to get a table on such a popular day. However I shouldn't have worried.

Once inside, I soon realised that there were plenty of free tables.

The hanging baskets at the front of the building looked slightly tired and in need of some attention, but the interior was clean, modern and family friendly.

We went to order some drinks, which took a little while, as initially there was only one member of staff serving.

Before long two more people came to lend a hand. A round of drinks was ordered for the five of us, which came to £8.35, and the meals were paid for totalling £26. The price of an adult meal is £6.50 on a Sunday but only £3.50 Mon-Sat. A child's meal (under 10) was £3.25.

We were each given a ticket and proceeded to queue for our food. The chef slicing and serving the meat was both professional and friendly and gladly gave my five year old an extra Yorkshire pudding when asked.

There was a choice of beef, turkey and ham and all looked mouth watering. There is also a veggie option to choose from.

Luckily the decision of which meat to choose was not difficult as you can request a slice of all three. There was a choice of six unlimited vegetables and normal or onion gravy.

It was refreshing for the family to go out for lunch and have the option of choosing exactly what and how much each person wanted. This meant there wasn't a scrap left on anyone's plate.

The dessert menu was varied and included the option of having smaller children portions for a third of the price.

We ordered three desserts, two coffees and a further two drinks for a price of £10.57. The desserts arrived promptly and were delicious.

There was a play area for children of all ages to enjoy although the vast amount of cigarette ends on the nearby patio did spoil it a little.

In total we spent £44.92 and it was worth every penny.

Having asked in the car on the way home did everyone enjoy their meal my youngest daughter said: "It was the bestest Sunday dinner I've ever had."

Sometimes children exaggerate but on this occasion she was pretty close.
