A good sized extension meant that although first impressions were that it was small, there were plenty of tables for us to choose from.
Quality of food excellent, very tasty
SUNDAY roasts have to be done well, and at the Windmill, Tabley, I found a restaurant that does them very well.
Feeling the effects of a busy Saturday night of socialising, I felt the best way to relieve my pangs was a big Sunday lunch.
I have driven past the Windmill every day for the last seven months and always thought it was in a good position for a pub and restaurant.
When we arrived the car park was packed - which is usually a good sign.
Inside I was surprised at the size of the place. From the outside it looks a lot larger.
A good sized extension meant that although first impressions were that it was small, there were plenty of tables for us to choose from.
We were greeted at the bar by a pleasant smile from the barman, and I ordered our drinks.
I have to admit after working in the pub industry during my studies, there is nothing worse than post mix lemonade which is weak. Expecting lemon, then getting fizzy water wasn't the best of starts but the barman apologised and replaced the drink.
After our minor disappointment with the drinks we sat down and had a look at the menu.
The pub menu on a Sunday consisted of the carvery and three other main menu choices, including a vegetarian option.
Both of us decided we wanted a starter, and we both chose the homemade paté with toast.
You can tell when produce is homemade, and this certainly was. It was very tasty and gave us encouragement as for the quality of our mains.
Both of us chose the carvery. There was a choice of four meats - pork, beef, turkey and gammon, and you could choose two to go on your plate.
I plumped for the turkey and beef, and my companion went for the pork and beef.
On the couple of occasions I have had a carvery meal I have always felt that I didn't get enough. That's not me being greedy, just the fact I want value for money.
The Windmill certainly gave value for money.
The meat was well cooked and tasty. Often carvery meat can be bland in flavour, but the turkey in particular was flavoursome.
My plate was piled high with carrots, roast potatoes, mashed potato, cauliflower, broccoli, yorkshire puddings and plenty of stuffing. And that's what I was. Stuffed.
As a result I had a quick glance at the dessert menu, but my belly couldn't take anymore.
We visited on a Sunday, but the Windmill have a full menu running through the week.
The cost for the carvery was £8.95 a head, and our bill including drinks came to £28.95.
