SMOKE alarms saved the lives of a family when their living room and kitchen went up in flames on Sunday morning.
Firefighters were called to the fire at Birchall Street in Croft, at around 2.20am. The living room and kitchen were totally destroyed, but the sleeping family managed to get out after alarms sounded.
Firefighter John Fletcher, of Red Watch Warrington, said: "The living room door was closed but a little bit of smoke got through to set the alarms off. The smoke detectors saved their lives, without a shadow of a doubt."
The crew from Warrington used breathing apparatus, thermal imaging cameras and hose jets to put out the blaze.
