IN response to the letter from Sue Statham (CHAIN), in the April 23 edition of the Guardian, as the UKIP candidate for Middlewich in the forthcoming local elections on May 1, I have no hesitation in giving the commitment she requests.
I am totally opposed to incineration as a means of waste disposal - it is an outmoded and discredited technology that pollutes the surrounding area, which in a farming area like Cheshire means the pollution also gets into the food chain, and contains toxins etc that are harmful to health.
There are other safer and more efficient methods of waste disposal available and we should not even consider incineration for a single minute.
I fully support the work of CHAIN, and if elected will do all in my power to fight the Covanta Energy proposal for an incinerator for Middlewich.
