FAMILIES fed up with sitting in front of the TV over Christmas are being invited to get together for an afternoon of board games.

Young and old are encouraged to take their favourite games along to Wincham Community Centre for a free event on Tuesday, December 30.

The games afternoon runs from 2pm to 4pm, and is being organised by Annie Makepeace, the chairman of Wincham Parish Council, and Sue Lawson, who distributes the Wincham Word newsletter and undertakes litter collections in the village.

The event is being staged under the umbrella of Wincham Village People, a non profit-making organisation, and is aimed at offering enjoyable family entertainment to bring the community together.

Tea and coffee and biscuits will be available, and if enough people support the games afternoon it could become a regular feature at the centre.

“The idea of the games afternoon is that it’s a social event, and it will help to get people out of their houses,” said Annie, who will be joining in the fun at the community centre.

“I love playing board games – they start conversations off and help to build relationships, and I like a challenge.

“People can bring any type of game along, whether it’s easy or complicated, and if enough people like the idea we could run further events, possibly once a month.”
