TWO brothers hope a turn a 'rough diamond' into one of the county's premier wedding and function venues.

Ryan and Lee Cartwright have teamed up with landowner Richard Wilding to provide the new venue at Cherry Orchard Farm, off Abbey Lane in Oakmere.

The farm, which has been in the Wilding family for 55 years, finished selling home grown produce this summer after the family decided to change things upon Richard's retirement.

Ryan, who runs Delamere Events Ltd with Lee, knew of the farm as he used to pick carrots for pocket money more than 30 years ago – and then got married at the venue he is now promoting in 2011.

"It's a bit of a rough diamond but we've got all the infrastructure in place now and it's a beautiful spot," he told the Guardian.

"The thing with wedding venues is that people are always hungry for new places. Anyone driving around the area will have no idea that this place exists.

"They sold their last lot of asparagus in July and they now want to generate income via another living."

The brothers will be holding their first event at the site in October by staging a charity event in aid of St Luke's Hospice and The Christie.

Ryan said he was hoping the large site would be perfect to catch brides attention.

"We always knew that the lake was there and the quarrying had been going on," he said.

"But I approached Richard four years ago to ask about putting our wedding on and we did that three years ago.

"The final quarrying finished at Christmas and all the electrics and landscaping are done and I've shown a couple of brides around.

"We hope to go and put on corporate events but at the moment we are in temporary marquees but we will look at getting planning for permanent ones in the future if we do well.

"We've both got the history of doing the Delamere Christmas events and we created a bit of a monster with that but this place is a large site and a lot of room to do things."
